Bunbu Ryodo

I have always believed that there is far more to be gained from the martial arts than mere fighting skills, physical fitness or camaraderie.

The calligraphy you see above is one of my favourite sayings in Karate-do:

Bunbu Ryodo

Meaning: The Scholar & the Warrior are two sides of the same coin.

The Martial Way, Budo in Japanese, signifies that the combative arts, whether they are stand up arts such as Karate, Taekwondo or Muay Thai, throwing arts such as judo and wrestling or arts that focus on ground control and submissions such Brazilian Jiujitsu, can all be vehicles for self actualisation. To achieve that, one must embrace the guiding principles of these arts as philosophies to live by.

Strong body. Strong Mind. Strong Spirit.
